The longer answer

2026 Kansas City market ranges (what we actually quote):

  1. Single buried downspout line (corrugated): $300–$700 — trench, pipe, downspout connection, and a daylight or pop-up outlet, 5–30 ft from the house.
  2. Single line in solid PVC: $400–$900 — smooth-wall pipe that moves water faster, resists crushing, and flushes clear more easily.
  3. Whole-house project (every downspout): $1,500–$3,500 — the lines share the dig, so the per-line price drops.
  4. Pop-up emitter: add $150–$300 — for runs that can't reach a daylight slope.
  5. No downhill exit at all: a dry well ($800–$2,200) instead of an outlet — the last resort in KC clay, and we'll tell you if your lot truly needs one.

What moves the price in KC specifically: our clay is slow, heavy digging; tight gate access can force hand-trenching; longer runs cost more than short ones; and the outlet matters — a clean daylight exit is cheaper than adding an emitter. Gutters without guards feed roof grit into the line, which is when the PVC upgrade earns its price.

Beware of quotes that seem too cheap. A buried line without a continuous downhill slope is a buried problem: any belly in the pipe holds water, freezes in January, and collects debris until it clogs. Ask any bidder: What pipe? What slope? Where does the water GO?
