What is a Soffit?
Soffit: The horizontal underside of the eave that seals between the fascia and the wall.
Full definition
The soffit is the horizontal panel that forms the underside of the roof overhang — the surface you see when you stand below the eave and look up. It seals the gap between the outer fascia board and the exterior wall, and typically includes ventilation slots that allow air to flow into the attic.
Common materials: vinyl panels (most common modern), aluminum, wood, or fiber cement. Damaged soffit is often discovered during gutter replacement and is repaired by the same crew.
