What is a Soffit Vent?
Soffit Vent: A ventilation opening in the soffit that allows cool air to enter the attic.
Full definition
Soffit vents are slotted or perforated panels in the soffit (underside of the roof eave) that let cool outdoor air enter the attic space. They work with ridge vents (or gable vents) to create airflow that keeps the attic temperature close to outdoor temperature.
Gutter cleaning crews should never block soffit vents with debris piles. If you see darkened or blocked soffit vents, request cleaning or replacement.
