What's in a Gutter Quote: Line-Item Breakdown

A proper gutter quote breaks down into 6 line items: gutter coil (material + linear footage + size), downspouts (size + count + length), hangers (type + count), accessories (end caps, miters, splash blocks), labor, and any required fascia repair. If a quote is just a single price, ask for the breakdown.

The 6 line items

  1. Gutter coil: Material (aluminum/steel/copper), thickness (.027 / .032 / heavier), color, total linear feet, profile (5" K / 6" K / half-round).
  2. Downspouts: Size (2x3 / 3x4 / 3-inch round), total count, total linear feet of vertical drop.
  3. Hangers: Type (hidden / spike-and-ferrule), spacing (every 24" is standard), total count.
  4. Accessories: End caps (one per terminus), miters (one per corner), splash blocks, downspout straps, drop outlets.
  5. Labor: Crew hours estimated, often baked into per-foot price.
  6. Fascia repair (if needed): Linear feet of fascia to replace, board grade, paint match.

Red flags

  • Single bottom-line price with no breakdown
  • No mention of coil thickness
  • No mention of hanger type
  • 'Lifetime warranty' on installation but no specifics on what's covered
  • 50%+ deposit required to schedule
