What is a Sectional Gutter?
Sectional Gutter: Pre-cut 10-foot gutter pieces snapped together with sealed joints — the DIY/big-box standard, with many leak points.
Full definition
Sectional gutter is the DIY-friendly format: 10-foot pre-cut aluminum or vinyl pieces sold at Home Depot, Lowe's, and similar retailers. The sections snap together with a slip joint sealed with caulk and a metal clamp.
Sectional gutters create a leak point every 10 feet. A 40-foot gutter run has 3-4 joints; a whole house has 20-30. Each joint will eventually fail as sealant ages, usually within 5-8 years. Not the standard installer choice.
