What is a Gutter Pitch / Slope?

Gutter Pitch / Slope: The slight downward angle of a gutter toward its downspout — standard is 1/4 inch drop per 10 linear feet.

Full definition

Gutter pitch (also called 'fall' or 'slope') is the slight downward angle that gutter runs are installed at, sloping toward downspouts. The industry standard is 1/4 inch of drop per 10 linear feet of run. This pitch is small enough to be invisible from the ground but enough to ensure full drainage.

Gutters installed perfectly level don't drain — they pool. Over time, standing water breeds algae, holds debris, and accelerates sealant breakdown.
