What is a French Drain?

French Drain: A buried perforated pipe in a gravel trench used to redirect groundwater away from a foundation.

Full definition

A French drain is a drainage system consisting of a perforated pipe (typically 4-inch PVC) buried in a gravel-filled trench. It collects groundwater or downspout discharge and redirects it underground to a safe terminus.

In KC, French drains are commonly paired with downspouts to keep water from saturating the clay soil at the foundation perimeter. See our French drains service.
