What is a End Cap?

End Cap: The metal piece that closes off the end of a gutter run.

Full definition

An end cap is the small pre-formed metal piece that closes the open end of a gutter run. It comes in left-side and right-side versions and is sealed inside the gutter cavity with butyl tape and gutter sealant.

End caps are the second most common leak source on aluminum gutters (after miters). Sealant typically fails at 10-15 years, causing slow drips that progress to streaming leaks. Re-sealing is a $50-$100 repair.
