What is a Downspout Extension?
Downspout Extension: A pipe or hinged extension that carries downspout discharge further from the foundation.
Full definition
A downspout extension is a length of pipe (rigid or flexible) added to the bottom of a downspout elbow to carry water further from the foundation. Extensions can be aluminum (matching the gutter), corrugated black plastic (cheaper, less durable), or rigid PVC (for buried installations).
Most KC municipalities require discharge at least 5 feet from foundations. Buried extensions terminating at a pop-up emitter at the lot line are the gold standard for KC clay soil.
