How Often Should Gutters Be Cleaned in KC?

Last updated: May 23, 2026 · Reading time ~5 min

Kansas City homes without gutter guards typically need 2-3 cleanings per year: late September, mid-November, and (with mature trees) early December. Homes with LeafBlaster Pro guards drop to once every 2-3 years. Homes with no trees within 30 feet may go 12-18 months between cleanings.

The KC-specific calendar

No mature trees: Once per year, ideally late November after any neighborhood drift has accumulated.

Some trees (1-2 within 30 ft): Twice per year — May (post seed-pod) and November.

Heavy tree canopy: Three times per year — late September, mid-November, early December.

With LeafBlaster Pro guards: Once every 2-3 years, primarily a quick brush of pollen/grit off the mesh surface.

Signs you need cleaning sooner

  • Water sheeting over the gutter front during rain
  • Plants growing out of the gutter (yes, really)
  • Sagging mid-run from leaf weight
  • Birds or squirrels nesting in the gutter
  • Streaking down the exterior wall below a gutter section

Cleaning service cost in KC

Most KC services charge $150-$300 for a typical ranch single cleaning. $250-$500 for 2-story.

Frequently asked

Can I clean my own gutters?

Yes for single-story with safe ladder access. Don't DIY 2-story unless you have proper ladder + safety training.

What's the right ladder?

Extension ladder long enough to extend 3 feet above gutter line. Stand-off stabilizer keeps the ladder off the gutter face.

Wet or dry cleaning?

Mostly dry (scoop debris by hand), then flush with hose at the end to test flow.
