Why Fascia Inspection Matters During Install

Why rot hides behind gutters
If old gutters were leaking at any miter or hanger for years, water trickled down behind the gutter face and saturated the fascia board. From the ground, you can't see this — the gutter covers it.
Pre-quote inspection technique
During the quote, we put a ladder up at the gutter and tap the fascia board with a screwdriver handle every few feet, listening for the dull thunk of soft wood. We also check the underside of the fascia from below the gutter. If anything is suspect, we disclose it BEFORE quoting.
If rot is found
We give you three options:
- Fix it now — splice in new fascia where rotted, add $4-$8/ft
- Hold off — we don't install gutters on rot; project pauses while you decide
- Cancel — rare, but if you decide the project is bigger than expected, we honor your deposit return.
Frequently asked
Can I see the rot myself?
Yes — we take photos during inspection and walk you through them.
How much fascia repair is typical?
Usually 5-15 lin ft on a 150 lin ft house with moderate gutter age.
Why didn't this come up in my quote?
Some installers don't pre-inspect fascia. Always ask whether your installer probed the fascia before quoting.
