Common Gutter Repairs and What They Cost

1. Re-seal leaking miters
Most common repair. Old sealant has failed; water drips from the corner. Fix: clean joint, apply new butyl tape + sealant. $150-$400.
2. Rehang sagging sections
Spike-and-ferrule pulled out; gutter sags. Fix: remove old spikes, install hidden hangers every 24". $300-$700 per section.
3. Replace damaged end cap or section
Hail, branch impact, or corrosion damaged a localized area. Fix: cut out damaged piece, splice in new. $200-$500.
4. Reattach loose downspout
Wind or vibration loosened the top or bottom strap. Fix: re-secure with new straps and rivets. $100-$300.
5. Clear severe downspout clog
Plug of leaves at an elbow won't blow out with a hose. Fix: disassemble downspout, clear, reseal. $150-$400.
6. Replace splash block or extension
Missing or damaged. Fix: install new splash block or buried 4-10 ft extension. $50-$200 per downspout.

If quoted repair exceeds 30-40% of replacement cost, and gutters are 20+ years old, replace instead.
Can I DIY any of these?
Re-seal miters and replace splash blocks are reasonable DIY. The rest involve ladder work and proper tools.
