# What's Actually in a Gutter Quote? A Line-Item Breakdown

A $3,200 quote can hide $800 of unnecessary upcharges. Or it might miss $400 of essential work. Knowing what should be in your quote is the difference between a fair deal and a bad one.

## What every quote should itemize

Premier Gutters KC line-items every quote. Here's what each section means and what to look for.

### Section 1: Gutter material

Listed as linear feet × per-foot rate. Should specify:

- **Size** (5″ or 6″ K-style, half-round, etc.)
- **Gauge** (.025″ builder grade or .032″ premium)
- **Color** (white/brown standard; custom colors are upcharges)
- **Per-foot rate** ($8.50-$10 for 5″, $10-$14 for 6″ in 2026 KC market)

### Section 2: Downspouts

Listed as count × length × per-foot rate. Should specify:

- **Quantity** (typical KC ranch: 4-6; 2-story: 6-8)
- **Size** (2x3 standard; 3x4 oversized for high-volume)
- **Per-foot rate** ($5.50-$7.50 for 2x3, $8-$10.50 for 3x4)
- **Elbows and accessories** (often included; sometimes separate)

### Section 3: Hangers + accessories

Usually included in the per-foot gutter rate but worth verifying. Should specify:

- **Hanger type** (hidden hangers, not spike-and-ferrule)
- **Hanger spacing** (24″ on-center for KC snow load)
- **Screw type** (stainless steel preferred)
- **End caps** (per gutter section; usually included)
- **Mitered corners** (custom-cut on-site; usually included)

### Section 4: Tear-off and disposal (replacement only)

Listed as per-foot rate. Should specify:

- **$2-$3 per linear foot in 2026 KC market**
- **Whether disposal fee is included** or extra
- **Recycling of aluminum gutters** (we recycle; some contractors don't)

### Section 5: Fascia/soffit repair (if needed)

Listed as feet × per-foot rate. Should specify:

- **Whether it's an estimate** (paid as actual work performed) or a flat rate

- **Paint match** (sometimes separate)

### Section 6: Gutter guards (optional)

Listed as linear feet × per-foot rate. Should specify:

### Section 8: Sales tax

Applied to materials in your city. KC-area sales tax ranges from 8.6% (most areas) to 9.85% (parts of MO). We list this explicitly.

### Section 9: Subtotal, deductions, total

Clear math from line items to subtotal, any volume or referral discounts, tax, and final total. Quote should hold for 30 days.

## What should NOT be in your quote

- **Lump-sum total with no line items** — major red flag
- **"Today only" pricing** — pressure tactic, walk away
- **"We'll waive your deductible"** — illegal insurance fraud in MO/KS
- **"Trip charge" over $100** for KC metro — unusual
- **"Permit fees"** — gutters don't require permits in KC
- **"Demo fee" separate from tear-off** — should be one line

**How to use this:** Get multiple quotes. Compare line-by-line. The cheapest total isn't always the best deal — sometimes the $200 cheaper quote skips the fascia repair you need, then you pay $1,200 in year 2 for fascia rot. Real apples-to-apples comparison only works with line-item quotes.
