## Short answer

Primed pressure-treated wood is the standard: strong screw-holding for gutter hangers, easy paint match, lower cost. Cellular PVC costs more but cannot rot - which earns its price in the wettest spots: behind roof valleys, under chronic problem corners, and on boards that have already rotted once. We install both at $12 to $22 per linear foot installed, primed, and painted, and quote whichever fits each run. Plenty of KC homes end up with a mix.

Rot resistance: PVC wins outright — it can't rot. Pressure-treated wood resists rot well when primed, painted, and kept out of standing water, which is most of the roofline.
Holding gutter hangers: wood takes and holds screws naturally. PVC holds well with correct fasteners and spacing — it's a technique question, and it's why fascia and gutters should be one crew's job.
Paint and appearance: both prime and paint to match your trim. PVC never needs paint for protection, only for color.

Our honest rule: wood by default, PVC where water keeps winning — behind valleys, at the bottom of long roof runs, anywhere we're replacing a board that already rotted once. Replacing rot with the same vulnerability in the same wet spot is how you buy the same repair twice.
